The Barrowbrook Frontier
The dwarves of Parthenos are a monoculture. They live above-ground, build ornate, graceful, elaborate structures of stone and clay, and raise silkworms. They follow the Great Lady and the Noble Ancestors and, to an individual, eschew alcohol completely. (They prefer tea.)
The dwarven kingdoms are each ruled by a Thane, a feudal-style warlord. They have a well-developed warrior consort aristocracy, supported by artisans, merchants and peasants. They have a rigid caste structure: one is born into one’s caste and serves his purpose dutifully for his entire life. Only rarely, through great deeds, is one able to rise to a new station.
